About Hanover
Hanover was first settled in 1774 and incorporated in 1843, formed from Howard's Gore and part of Bethel across the river. German settlers named it for the House of Hanover.
Howard Pond takes its name from Phineas Howard, who bought the township land in 1792. In the 1800s, Howard Pond Stream powered the town's mills.
