Becoming a Maine Medical Cannabis Patient
Maine removed its list of qualifying conditions from the medical cannabis program in 2018 — any condition a licensed medical provider is willing to certify now qualifies. Here's how certification works.
1. Get certified by a licensed provider
A licensed Maine physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant can certify you through the state's certification system. Their written certification is what you bring to a Maine dispensary.
2. No separate state card
Maine no longer issues registry cards to patients: the voluntary patient registration was repealed by PL 2023, c. 679. Your provider's certification, with a photo ID, is all you need.
3. Bring ID when you visit
New Mill serves qualifying patients 18 and older. Bring your certification and a valid government-issued photo ID. Visiting from another state? Your home-state card may work here: see which states Maine accepts, what to bring, and the limits.

This page describes Maine's general medical cannabis certification process and isn't medical or legal advice. New Mill is a licensed dispensary, not a medical provider, and can't certify patients or recommend cannabis for any condition.
