Buying Medical Cannabis in Maine

A valid medical cannabis certification or card from your home state, and a photo ID or driver's license from that same state. Your state must be on the list below.

Visiting patients: states Maine accepts
Since June 6, 2019, patients visiting Maine don't need a Maine certification. Your home-state card or certification works here, as long as your home state allows it to be used in other states. These are the states that have told Maine's Office of Cannabis Policy that they do:

Coming from New Hampshire?
New Hampshire is on Maine's list. Bring your New Hampshire medical cannabis card or certification and a New Hampshire photo ID or driver's license. Taking cannabis across state lines, including back into New Hampshire, is illegal under federal law.

Your first visit
- Check in at the counter. We check your medical cannabis card or certification and your photo ID before any sale.
- Know what you want, or ask. Browse the menu before you come, or call (207) 370-5603 to check on something specific. Availability changes often.
- Pay with cash. There's an ATM inside the store.
- Visiting patients: keep your purchases within 2½ ounces every 15 days.
Common questions
Can I use my New Hampshire medical cannabis card in Maine?
Yes. New Hampshire is on the Maine Office of Cannabis Policy's list of states whose patients may buy in Maine. Bring your New Hampshire card or certification and a New Hampshire photo ID or driver's license.
Can my ID be from a different state than my medical card?
No. A visiting patient's photo ID or driver's license must be from the same state that issued their medical cannabis card or certification. For example, a Massachusetts medical card with a Florida driver's license won't be accepted.
Do I need a Maine medical card if I'm visiting?
